Meta pixel setting can result in heavy fines

How do you use your Meta-pixel?

Recently, the Swedish Data Protection Authority (IMY) imposed fines totaling over 40 million SEK on two Swedish pharmacy chains. The companies failed in their security practices by using a specific Meta-pixel feature that transferred sensitive personal data to Meta. If you're unsure about how your Meta-pixel is being used, we at Bombayworks can help you review your setup.

Automatic Advanced Matching feature

Both companies, like many others, used Meta's analytics tool, Meta-pixel, to enhance their marketing on Facebook and Instagram. However, sensitive personal data was transferred due to the use of the Automatic Advanced Matching feature through the Meta-pixel.

Lack in security routines

IMY's review revealed that neither company had the necessary routines to detect these issues. The companies were fined for violating GDPR by not implementing appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure adequate security for their customers' personal data.

Do you know how you're using your Meta-pixel? Does your organisation have the routines to detect potential shortcomings? If not, feel free to contact Bombayworks, and we can assist you.
