Html5 & Flash
Flash was for a time the most popular format for web sites because of animated graphics, video and font-independence. Favoritism of Flash, however, have in recent years fallen dramatically, mostly due to poor search engine optimization and that mobile devices like the iPhone cannot display Flash, yet. Many companies have therefore reverted to the traditional HTML. However, there have been new standards and technologies that make the user interface experience more equal Flash: HTML5. HTML5 is actually a set of new features in HTML, which in combination with CSS3 and JavaScript allows implementation of video, audio and animation
without having to use plugins such as Adobe Flash Player. The HTML5 standard is so new that many browsers do not support all or some of the new features. Today, HTML5 is suported in the latest versions of major browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. HTML5 is not supported in older versions of browsers, that still is widely used, such as Internet Explorer 7 and 8. The advantage of Flash being able to use fonts that are not web safe, is now gone as newer browsers support @font-face. @font-face is a CSS rule that allows the user to download fonts
from a server when the web page appears. This means that web design in HTML no longer requires the use of fonts that the user has installed on their computer. One problem is that different browsers have chosen to support different font formats which requires dealing with these differences. It has also turned up some services that simplify and allows the use of both free and licensed fonts, such as Google Font API and TypeKit. Even if HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript are good alternatives to Flash, one should always ensure that the websites that are developed with the
new HTML5 features also function in a satisfactory way for the user in older browsers. The compability requirement makes it more time consuming to develop web solutions with HTML5 features. Our general recommendation is to avoid Flash when you can and limit the use to parts of your website, but always in combination with fallback solutions such as JavaScript. In some cases, such as campaigns or sites that require advanced animation, Flash is still the strongest and most flexible technical solution.
Social media
Social media like Facebook and Twitter have become increasingly important in corporate digital presence. Facebook currently has over 500 million users, each user has an average of 130 friends and create 90 posts per month. Facebook's users are installing more than 20 million applications every day. It is no wonder that Facebook is the greatest and most effective venue for disseminating
information. Over 2.5 million websites are integrated with Facebook today and over 10 000 new sites integrate with Facebook every day. We have extensive experience in building these links to Facebook, either using ready-made plugins to view or create comments or using Facebook's interface (API) to log in and
download information on Facebook to your website. Most large companies have even a Facebook fan page, in addition to their site. The advantage is of course the large user base and the ease to find the page but also the enormous proliferation of information that can be achieved if you have many fans. We develop fully customized fan
page pages for companies that also can be easily maintained with a content management system as we can generate Facebook markup langauge (FBML). Of course, we have experience of other links to social media like Twitter and Spotify. Contact us to find out more about your options.
